Shelf needs a server
Shelf ships with no content of its own. It plays the library on a Jellyfin server you run, so a new install stops at the welcome screen until you enter that server’s address and sign in. On iPhone and iPad it also opens video files you pick from Files or iCloud Drive.
Signing in
Enter the address your Jellyfin server answers on, including the port, for example http://192.168.1.50:8096. Servers on the same network are offered automatically. If your server has Quick Connect enabled you can approve the code from another signed-in device, or choose to sign in with a password instead. An account without a password works.
Common problems
Nothing to browse after signing in. Check the account can see a Movies or Shows library on the server itself; Shelf shows what that account is allowed to see. The server is not found on the network. Enter its address by hand, and allow Shelf to find devices on the local network when iOS asks. Delete and Refresh are missing. Jellyfin allows those only for accounts with the matching permission, so Shelf hides them for everyone else.
